Joseph Charles Keyser is the son of Samuel Charles Keyser (1804 PA) and Mary Jernigan Whitmore Keyser.

He and Emma A Nisewanger were married 25 Oct 1868 In Fredrick Co, MD.

He and his brother Augustus William Keyser(26 Oct 1838-5 Feb 1892) are buried in Milton Cemetery, and sister Elizabeth J Keyser(24 Dec 1840-2 Jan 1868 is buried in Milton Cem. The other sister Margaret Virginia Keyser (31 March 1843-13 Oct 1905)married Rev. Wesley Barnwell Dennis about 1862 in Floridatown, Santa Rosa co, FL. She and husband are buried in Methodist Church Cemetery in Plantersville, Dallas Co, AL)

Joseph Charles enlisted first on Sept 21, 1861 in Fairfax Co, VA just west of Washington DC. His horse was killed in Sep 29 1862 and he then deserted on Dec 1, 1862. He later reinlisted in 6th AL calvery in April 1863 and became a Capt in the 6th Alabama Calvery. He later operated a tug boat in daytime on Pensacola and Escambia bays and at night hauled logs from the Blackwater and Escambia rivers with the tug boat to the lumber mills - some were imported mahagany logs from ships that came from South America.
