Philip Christman Jr., 69, Minot, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Trinity Hospital, after a long struggle with cancer.

Philip was born on September 21, 1938, the son of Philip J. and Bertha (Sprenger) Christman in Garrison, ND. He was raised and educated in the Butte area, graduating from Butte High School.

On December 29, 1959, Philip enlisted into the US Army. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on September 1, 1962.

He was united in marriage to Carolyn Hauge on October 3, 1964, in Minot. They made their home Southwest of Minot, where Philip worked road construction for a few years and then worked Civil Service at the Minot Air Force Base for 30 years before retiring in 1999.

Philip loved his grandchildren dearly. He liked to work on old cars, collect coins and go to the casino. He was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church and the Butte American Legion.

He is survived by:
His wife of 43 years, Carolyn, Minot; daughter: Tracey (Gabe) Maliscke, Bowman, ND; son Todd (Corine) Christman, Berthold, ND; grandchildren: Kyle, Kristen, Samantha, Brandon, Noah and Alexis Christman, step-grandchildren: Nathan, Sophia and Mollie Maliscke; mother: Bertha Christman, Velva, ND; sisters: Kathryn Cline, Wilton, ND, Leona Petersen, Rice Lake, ND, Elaine Boozenny, Mandan, ND; brother: Delmer (Lois) Christman, Spencer, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Philip was preceded in death by his father Philip, grandson Aaron, and nephew Cameron.

Visitation: Friday, May 2, 2008 from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot

Burial: 1:00 p.m. at the Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold, ND
