Joseph B. Brands, Jr., 86, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024. Formerly of Columbus, IN, he was a longtime winter resident of Bonita Springs before making it his permanent home in 2017. He was born August 12, 1937, in Louisville, KY, the son of the late Joseph B. and Marie (Mayer) Brands, Sr.
Joseph was a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he earned his bachelor's degree in animal husbandry. His career was spent as a livestock buyer, retiring from Mariah Packing in 1990.
He was a longtime member of the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church in Columbus, IN, and attended Unity of Bonita Springs Church. He was an avid tennis player who also enjoyed hunting and grilling on the barbeque.
Survivors include his loving son, William J. (Heather) Brands of Miromar Lakes, FL/Frankfort, MI; and cherished granddaughters, Lauren Kaylie Brands of Atlanta, GA, Hanna Rose Holmgren of Portland, OR, and Hayden Marie Brands of E. Lansing, MI. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sue Brands on February 11, 2024; and his sister, Joy Marie Brands.
Funeral services will be private.
He will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Unity of Bonita Springs Church.
