Robert Sayles Moore was born at Lebanon, Ohio, Dec. 22, 1833, from whence at the age of four years he removed to LaPorte, Indiana. He was united in married June 8, 1854, to Miss Eliza VanTassel also of LaPorte County, to which union were born eight children, Harry Benjamin, Mary Ann, Nora, Edith, Robert Milroy, Sadie May, Samuel Reeves, and Aaron Stanton, six of whom survive. Nora Anna having passed to a brighter world in early childhood and Harry following her in the year 1899. In 1862 the deceased enlisted in Co. G of the 87 Ind. Vol. and served his country faithfully three years. That he was a good neighbor and a true friend was attested by all who knew him. As a husband he was always loving, kind, and considerate.

LAMB'S CHAPEL
the remains of Robert Moore were laid away here Sunday in the cemetery. Another old soldier that helped to fight the battles and save our beloved country has gone to his reward. The stars and stripes, for which sake he left home and family, to face shot and shell, are proudly floating over him. A few remaining veterans stood by his open grave to cast into in their tribute of brotherly love and remembrance of soldier days when they drank from the same canteen and suffered and fought together. The services were very impressive. The family were all present, with the exception of one daughter that lives in the far west. Mrs. Walters, a sister, plucked a few of the flowers that covered the coffin to send to her that her tears might mingle with theirs over a father that has departed. Go to thy rest; and while thy absence we deplore, one thought our sorrows shall beguile, for soon with a celestial smile, we meet to part no more.
