Granite Falls, N.C. - Gene Surles Corpening, 79, of Granite Falls, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Corpening was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Caldwell County to the late Dr. O.J. and Alice Surles Corpening.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Jimmie Corpening, Dr. Albert E. Corpening, Dr. William N. Corpening and Robert B. Corpening, and three sisters, Elisabeth C. Farmer, Sara S. Corpening and Adelaide Corpening.
Survivors include his sister, Mary C. Duckworth and husband, Bill, of Asheville; his brothers, Dr. Joseph D. Corpening and wife, Jean, of Salisbury and Dr. Thomas N. Corpening and wife, Shirley, of Houston, Texas; sister, Barbara C. Rost of Granite Falls; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his trusted friend, Amy Dula.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, in the Bass-Smith Granite Chapel, with Dr. Robert Evans officiating.
Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008.
