Richard P. Fowler

Richard Patterson Fowler, 92, died Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Torrence at the rear of 317 West Sixth st., following a several months illness of infirmities of old age. Mr. Fowler was born Oct. 15, 1848, on a farm two miles south of Pughtown, a son of William Baker Fowler and Anna Pugh Fowler. He was the last member of his immediate family. He was a brother of the late W. S. Fowler and J. Q. A. Fowler. He was a cousin of David Pugh, Hancock county pioneer, who founded the village of Pughtown. Mr. Fowler was a bricklayer and a stone mason by trade and last was employed by the Bough cooperage here. He was a Republican in politics and claimed the distinction of having voted in 16 presidential elections, starting when U. S. Grant was elected in 1872. He was a member of the First Methodist church. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Eva Nelson of the Allison school district near Chester, Mrs. Sarah Irwin of East Palestine, and Mrs. Anna Pancake of near Negley; one son, Edward C. Fowler of East Palestine, and seven grandchildren and five great - grandchildren. His wife and two sons preceded him in death. Services will be held in the Arner home for funerals Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. William Dewight Heaston, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery. Friends may call tonight at the funeral home.
