Al Neves was born to Manuel and Virginia Neves on April 15, 1921 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He left this life on April 26, 2008 holding the hand of his beloved wife and best friend, Gail Neves. Al was a devoted and loving father to Albert R. Neves, Denise Neves, Robert McElroy (Debbie) and Alicia Peterson (Paul). He is survived by six grandchildren, Tonyia and Cherise Neves, Benjamin, Thomas and Anthony Moyle, Zachary Peterson and two great-grandchildren, Javier Neves-Vargas and Sophie Moyle. He also is survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins. Al was a man who lived his life with honor, integrity, kindness and compassion. He was a World War II veteran who proudly served his country as a mechanic in the Third Army and was awarded the Soldier's Medal in 1945. During the 1940's and 50's he drove race cars at the Oakland Stadium and many other local race tracks. Al drove a cement mixer for Rhodes and Jamieson for 32 years. He was a life member of the Fremont Elks Lodge and the San Lorenzo Moose Lodge. Al enjoyed cruises, trips to Reno, and socializing with his family and friends. He worked hard, played hard and was a friend to everyone he met. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the San Lorenzo Scholarship Foundation, 15510 Usher St., San Lorenzo, CA 94580. A celebration of Al's life will be held on Wednesday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544.
