Irene Steckline, 86, 309 W. 14th, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at her home. She was born July 29, 1915, in Liebenthal to John and Anna (Kreutzer) Schoendaller.

She attended school in Liebenthal and Mount Carmel High School in Wichita.

She married Carl Steckline on Nov. 10, 1937, in Liebenthal. He died Oct. 21, 1992.

They made their home on a farm in the Ogallah area. She was a homemaker and a cook in the Ogallah school system. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Altar Society and Christian Mothers in Hays.

Survivors include a son, Larry, Garden Plain; a daughter, Belinda DeWerff, Hays; a brother, Robert Schoendaller, Wichita; two sisters: Louise Horning, Ransom, and Georgia Steckline, Wichita; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays with Father Earl Befort officiating; burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Ellis. Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine. There will be an Altar Society and Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m., and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., both today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested for Masses.
