Bruce Charles Elmore, 75, of Abilene, TX, lost his battle with Alzheimer's disease surrounded by the love of his family and caretaker (Rayden) on Monday, February 12, 2024. 


Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2024, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. 


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2024, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Tommy Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Gap Cemetery.


Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.


Bruce was born in Abilene to Mary Margarite (Craig) and William Otis Elmore on January 27, 1949.


He went to school in Abilene and graduated from Abilene HIgh. 


He married Sue Powell on January 2, 1971, in Abilene, TX. 


Bruce retired from Abilene Eye Institute after working there for 27 years.


He also worked at Eastman Whipstock, Timex and at Rhode Ranch where he lived and ran the ranch. 


Bruce had a love of horses and grew up riding and caring for horses all of his life until Alzheimer's prevented him from doing so and even then he talked often about it.


He also loved most animals and became known as the "dog whisperer" as all dogs loved him and wanted to sit in his lap.


He had a fierce and great love for his loving wife and daughters.


He shared his love of horses with his daughters and taught them all he knew. 


Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill Elmore.


Bruce is survived by his wife, Sue Powell Elmore of Abilene; daughters, Adrianne Farmer and husband Randy of Tuscola, Jenny Kay Moore and husband Brandon of Lorena; three grandchildren, Katie Farmer, Avery Moore and Ridley Moore; his caretakers, Rayden Mullen and India Fernandez; he is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Linda Powell, and Randy and Mary Kay Penrice.


The pallbearers will be, Randy Farmer, Brandon Moore, Randy Penrice, David Powell, Kyle Penrice, and Warren Dozier, DVM.
