Sadly her father fell off a horse and died the following year.
She married Denis Creagh and Irishman who was an army officer. The couple stayed in Sri Lanka until the 1890's and then returned to Ireland when Denis's regiment returned there. In 1894 the couple headed to Nova Scotia again with the regiment. Lucy died on board of complications of cirrhosis of the liver. She was 46. She was buried on arrival at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Her husband Denis was heartbroken and never remarried. The couple had no children.
