Frances Aleene Skipton died peacefully in her sleep at Grace Cottage, Wichita, KS on February 6, 2024. Frances was born to Velma Ruth Beeson and George Alcorn Rigdon on January 15, 1932 in Marshall (Saline County), MO. Frances moved to Deerfield, Ks in 1949, when her mother married Joseph John Anderson, and Joe and Ruth joined their two families together. Frances married Freeman Lowell Skipton of Haddam, KS on March 27, 1951. They made their home in Deerfield until moving to Garden City in 1966. Frances worked a variety of jobs in her lifetime. She was a nurse aide at both the Kearny County Hospital and St. Catherine Hospital. She worked for Butler/Oswalt grain dryer division in wiring, as a paraprofessional for USD 457, at Wal-Mart as door greeter, and also operated a daycare center in her home. While in Garden City, Frances was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and later Cornerstone Church. After moving to Wichita in 2012, she attended Zaik Church. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, and visiting with her children, grandchildren, friends and extended family. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ruth Anderson, her husband Freeman (deceased 1997), four brothers: Gene Rigdon, Frank Anderson, Charles Anderson, and Warren Rigdon; and six sisters: Georgia Rigdon Carter, Laura Anderson Stenzel, Judy Anderson Gadd, Mary Sue Rigdon Smith, Reva Rigdon Welch, Mary Anderson Skipton, her granddaughter Maria Martinez Graves, and two sons-in-law, Dan Ward and Robert Martinez. Frances is survived by her children: Vickie Ward of Wichita, Ks, Brenda (Patrick) Howard of Garden City, Linda Martinez of Atlanta, KS, Eugenia Gail Skipton of Wichita, Freeman Lowell (Lori) Skipton II of Canyon, Texas, and sixteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, thirty-two great-great grandchildren, her sister Stella McGinn of Tecumseh, KS, her brother James (Janet) Anderson of Long Island, NY, and her sisters-in-law Marlene Skipton , Yvonne Skipton, and Pat Rigdon. Frances was also loved by numerous nieces and nephews. Baker Funeral Home in Wichita, is in charge of cremation. Internment of ashes will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City in a private ceremony. Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at Cornerstone Church in Garden City, at a date yet to be determined.
