Anna Kate James of Newport, passed away Monday, January 29, 2024 at home surrounded by her family. She was a retiree of Stokely-Van Camp/Quaker Oats and was a long time member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where she attended regularly as long as her health permitted. She loved gardening and quilting. She was the fourth of eight children born to Frank and Lillie Allen on January 12, 1928.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert L. James; sisters Ada Lon Hardin, Alma Black, Alene Ramsey, and Arlene Webb; brothers Hardy Allen and Hal Allen; and special-sister-in-law that she loved like a sister, Emma Dean Allen.
Kate is survived by her daughter Barbara (Herbert) Cureton; son Dennis L. James; granddaughter Courtney (Will) Beckner; and great-grandchildren who were the lights of her life, Matthew and Lillianna Beckner. She is also survived by her last living sibling, Hollis L. Allen; friend Janice Baxter; and special niece who she called her "Other Daughter" Arzella (Jerry) Shelton. Additionally she is survived by several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful care. Also a very special "Thank You" to her two loving caregivers, Patricia Cody and Anita Green.
Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery.
