Daughter of James W. Griffin and Nancy "Nannie" Melton. Theresa was 1/4 Cherokee. Her mother Nancy was half Cherokee and half white, and may have been the daughter of John Melton and Acumo (often seen as Ocuma), who was born about 1750 ("Doublehead Last Chickamauga Cherokee Chief", by Rickey Butch Walker, 2012. The year of her mother's birth and the state of Alabama coincide with the years and state of known siblings, if Nancy her mother indeed was the daughter. In addition Nancy Griffin and her children are listed slightly below Lewis Melton and his family on the roll, who would have been Nancy (Melton) Griffin's brother on the Old Settlers Roll 1851 Tahlequah -see attached document.
