They left England in September 1878, and sailed for America, arriving in Salt Lake City in October. At this time they had six children, and had buried one in England,-a daughter, Kate Frances Ventom DeFriez, 10 Months old when she died.
They had traveled by train from New York, but to reach their destination in St. George, they had to travel team and wagon over rough roads, sleep on the ground, and cook over a camp fire. These conditions were very distressing, and the family were all happy to end the journey. There were many new things to learn & experience.
Their daughter Lousie died when her first child was born, Luman Farber Rose, Mary Amelia & William raised him after her death.
They lived in England, Utah & Nevada, he was 72 years old at the time of his death. His occupation listed on the State of Utah Death Certificate lists Postmaster & bookeeping.
