Richard was the second son of Major Howard Lee Hinkle & Helen P VanBeber Hinkle Burkhalter. He attended high school at the American Consulate School in Beirut Lebanon & graduated from Whittier College, Whittier, California. He lived many years in Marin County, CA. & had two sons. Richard was called Byrd by his brothers & friends, and Dick by family. A veteran of the Vietnam Campaign. In later years he developed Parkinson Disease. Richard and his wife, Barbara, lovingly cared for each other through several medical crisis. The last year he made his home at Southern Utah Veterans Home & his wife and pets were just a mile away and able to visit daily. Richard was the kindest man and very caring. He moved to Arizona to care for his mother when she was diagnosed with a terminal illness. He not only provided care but stayed by her side in her last moments. Cremated remains sprinkled at one of his favorite parks, Cedar Breaks National Monument, near Cedar City, Iron County, Utah. His background in geology continued to be a passion through out his life. He also enjoyed photography and traveled the world when his mom lived in; Jeddah, Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia, Beirut, Lebanon, & Republic of Cyprus, an island country in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, for many years.
