Mary Bruce Obituary

Mary Ethelene Bruce, was born December 30, 1923, to Willie Wesley Farmer and Effie Flora (Grisham) Farmer, in Elmwood, Tennessee. Mary passed from this life on Thursday, October 21, 2021, in Marysville, California, due to an unfortunate fall.

Mary was a feisty, independent, woman who loved gardening, canning, cooking, fishing, hunting, and her many dogs and animals through the years.

Mary was not afraid of hard work and had various jobs through her long life. Mary grew up on a farm in Tennessee with her parents and siblings. Once she left home at 14, she took a job as a housekeeper / nanny for room and board at 50¢ per week. Other jobs in her life were waitress, Munitions Factory worker in Wisconsin, Navy Fleet Post Office in San Francisco during WW2, machinist at the American Can Company in San Francisco, rancher in Colorado and finally motel manager.

Mary was also a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Llano Uplift Chapter of the Texas Society NSDAR.

Mary was preceded in death by her siblings, Frank Farmer, Sr., Joseph Farmer, Clarence (Hoss) Farmer, Atha Louise Wilson, Anna (Kitty) Swindell, Ada Lee (Polly) Boston, and Lorene (Toddy) Morton. Mary was also preceded in death by her four husbands, Wallace Shirley Patterson, George Pfleg, George O'Bryan, and Cecil Edwin Bruce; and her only son, Wallace Bruce Patterson.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Shirley Hunsperger (Bruce), and Debbie Mireles (Frank); granddaughters, Stacy Dale (John), Deanna McCarthy (Darin), Suzanne McCarthy (Dylan), and Amber Corona (Marco); grandsons, Walter Balczewski, Kelvin Buschman and Hayden Lee; great-granddaughters, Savannah Gomez (Alejandro), Meghan, Peyton and Kylie McCarthy, Brooke Sutter, Campbell Saverien, Lilianna Gonzales, Evangelina Acevedo, Jackie Corona and Gracie Balczewski; great-grandsons, Jonathan and Joshua Dale, Antonio Corona and Rowan Buschman; and great-great-grandson, Lorenzo Martinez.

Mary lived life her way until the end. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond Street, Yuba City, CA, on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 2:00 pm.
