Helen Marie Poche Dugas was born on June 17,1928 in Vacherie, La., and died on January 7, 2024 at age 95. She graduated from Shady Grove High School in 1945. She was a resident of Marrero for 78 years. Helen was the daughter of Charles Poche Sr. and Louisie Torres Poche. She was the sister to the late Clare Rose (William), Mary Boudreaux (Del), and Francis Poche (Debbie). She was survived by one brother Charles Poche Jr. (Diane), two sisters, Jane Dugas (Late Mitchel), and Linda Burke (Claud). Married, for 57 years to the love of her life, the late Joseph "Joe, JP" P. Dugas. The mother to the late Michael P. Dugas Sr. (Maria), and Danny J. Dugas (Susan). Survived by one daughter Patricia Dugas Peyton (Paul). Also survived by grandchildren Michael Dugas Jr. (Anna), Michelle Dugas Saucier (Korey), Jeremy Dugas, Jacob Dugas (Mallory), Alexander Peyton (Lisa), Victoria Peyton, and Samantha Peyton Brunet (Luke). Great grandchildren, Dustin Dugas (Sierra), Joe Dugas, Zach Dugas, Brechtel Ball, Ayla Saucier, Jameson Saucier, Rivers Saucier, and Parker Saucier. She had two great great grandchildren, Wayne Dugas and Daisy Dugas. Also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. She attended Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church for many years. Helen worked as a South Central Bell telephone operator for 6 1/2 years, and later worked at Mackenzie Bakery and was a Subsitute Teacher for Jefferson Parish Schools. She was a board member of AARP Chapter #2944, serving as Chair of the Food Bank, Potluck, Storehouse, Nominating, Community Service Program, Prayer and Audit Committees for the years 2000 and 2001. She also belonged to the Marrero Senior and Gretna Senior Halls as well as the Gretna Historical Society. Helen loved music and to dance. She took line dancing lessons for 8 years, and loved to dance around the house (even with her walker) and to watch music programs. She enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening since a young child. Her lifelong passion was sewing. She shared this passion with her family and close friends with the making and giving of the many quilts that she so beautifully made. Each quilt was stitched with the gifts of loving thoughts and well wishes, to later be cherished memories. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Visitation at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Westwego, LA on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 10:00 AM until Funeral Mass time at 12:00 PM. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.  Mothe Funeral Homes handled arrangements.
