Alfred, known as Fred, was the son of George and Jane Linkletter Sharp. He grew up on Prince Edward Island and relocated to Rossland BC along with his brothers, Clarke(Horatio) and Arthur.

On May 20, 1903, he married Charlotte Bissell. He worked as a miner, a carpenter, and a warehouse man. He and Charlotte had at least two sons, both dying in infancy.

At the age of 43, Fred had a heart attack and passed away. Due to a mix-up by the undertakers, his death was recorded first as Fredrick Sharpe. His widow,Charlotte, had to make a sworn affidavit to get his death record changed to his true name Alfred George Sharpe.
