Brenda Huggins Heggs Obituary
Brenda Huggins Heggs was born on November 22, 1947 in Bradenton,
FL. She was the first daughter born to Gertrude Middle Huggins and John
Lee Huggins. She was sister to John Lee, Jr., twin sisters, Carrie Ann and
Kate Sue, and youngest sister, Melba.
Her early relationship with God was nourished at Ward Temple AME
Church which started with her Grandparents, E.J. and Carrie Middleton.
She received her early education at Bradenton Elementary and Lincoln
Memorial High School before moving to New Jersey where she finished
at Barringer High School. She continued her education at Lake Erie
College in Painesville, OH where she would meet her future husband,
Owen, who was a practicing attorney.
Brenda and Owen lived in Shaker Heights, OH, where Brenda used her
theater minor to work as costume designer at the well known Black
Karamu House in Cleveland, OH. She later worked as a buyer at
Higbee's Department Store, traveling the world on buying trips. That was
not her last job. She moved to Washington, D.C. to work in membership
and event planning at AARP. She later worked at the U.S. Trade and
Development Agency as a Special Projects Officer.
She was retired and living in Upper Marlboro, MD when she suffered a
few injuries and decided to return home to Florida for rehabilitation and to
be close to family.
Brenda was preceded in death by her brother, John; sister, Kate; husband,
Owen.
She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life, sisters, Carrie
Ann (Edward) Green and Melba Huggins; Cousins, Carl Middleton,
Sandra Draw, Dagon (Patricia) Garris, Sonja Taylor and Jennifer Lewis'
nieces and nephews: Danny Harris, Sonja Joi (Maurice) Lee, Henry
(Kearsten) Jones, and Nikki (Al) Richardson; Goddaughter, Keri Taylor;
great nieces and nephews: Noah, Jada, Zion and Isaiah Richardson,
Dominic and Carrie Joi Jones, Harmony and Briana Harris; half siblings,
Arthur Huggins, Craig Huggins, and Avis Lewis; and a host of relatives
and friends.
