Robert Louie Steglich, 84, of Bartlett passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

Robert was born February 20, 1939, in Temple to Louie and Edna Steglich.

He grew up in Bartlett with his younger sister, Etoile. He attended Bartlett ISD all twelve years, graduating in 1957. He began his long farming career during his senior year when he purchased his first farm near Bartlett.

Robert completed Texas National Guard training in June 1957 and then enlisted with the 49th Armored Division of Texas National Guard in March 1960. He served in the 3d Medium Tank Battalion 112th Armor U.S. Army division. During his service, Robert was awarded a Texas Service Medal. He returned to the Texas National Guard before being honorably discharged in February 1965.

Robert loved to share many stories of his time working as a ginner in Bartlett and Lubbock. He was also a founding stockholder for the Hol-Bart Gin in Holland.

Robert married Joyce Marie Jones on June 29, 1966. They raised four children in the Holland/Bartlett area: Robert Wayne, Melanie Marie, Rhonda Kay, and Kevin Thomas.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Louie Ernest Steglich and Edna Etoile Beard Steglich; and his sister, Etoile Elaine Steglich.

Robert is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Joyce Marie Jones Steglich; his children: Robert Wayne (Evelyn) Steglich, Melanie Marie (Ray) Roberts, Rhonda Kay (Andy) Snyder, and Kevin Thomas (Windy) Steglich; 13 grandchildren: Erin Elaine, Clara Ann, and James Robert Steglich; Brandon Ray Roberts and Sarena Marie (Zac) Waller; Rachel Marie (Wyatt) Archer, Michelle Ann (Jeb) Zolman, and Logan Tracy, Katherine Elizabeth, and Jacob Andrew Snyder; Bryson Thomas, Hope Ann, and Ryan Mitchell Steglich; 6 great grandchildren and numerous cousins.

Services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Bartlett on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 4:00 PM. There will be a fellowship and meal immediately following the service in the church hall. Providence Funeral Home in Taylor assisted with arrangements.
