Henry F. Hassel, 80, above, died yesterday afternoon at his home, 15 Buttonwood Avenue, City, following three months' illness.
Mr. Hassel was born in Wilkes-Barre, being a son of the late Charles and Rachael Bierly Hasel. A lifelong resident of city he was employed at the Vulcan Iron Works prior to his retirement. Previously, he had been employed as a yardmaster for the Lehigh Valley Railroad.
Mr. and Mrs. Hassel celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in May. They were married in Luzerne by Rev. John Steinkracher. Mrs. Hassel is the former Henrietta Kuhl of Wilkes-Barre.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and its men's organizations. He was also a member of the POS of A and Knights of Malta, Wilkes- Barre, and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Harry, White Haven, and Ralph, Wilkes-Barre; two daughters, Mrs. Emil Hankey, Wilkes-Barre, and Florence H. Hassel, at home; a sister, Mrs. Jeannette Kropp, Charleston, S. C. and five grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Kniffen Funeral Home, 465 South Main Street, Thursday at 1:30. Rev. Burke Rivers will officiate. Interment in Memorial Shrine Cemetery. Friends may call tonight 7 to 10 and Wednesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 10.
