Lila Lea (Crooks) (Tynan)(Tynan) (Wall) Dietrich, age: 88 years and 8 days, of Mason City, died Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at MercyOne Hospital from Covid 19. She was born in New Hampton, Iowa at St. Joseph's Hospital on December 11, 1935, the daughter of Loyal Ward and Carol Lavina (Parson) Crooks. Lila grew up in rural Ionia / Nashua, Iowa and graduated from Nashua High School in 1954.
On September 7, 1954, she married Jerald Edward "Jimmy" Tynan at the Methodist
Church in Austin, Minnesota. At the time when they were married, Jimmy had custody
of his two children from a previous marriage, Jerry and Jeannie Tynan. Jimmy was
killed in a car accident on January 1, 1955, approximately 3 months after they were married. Although she was in a coma while pregnant, Lila and her unborn child, Daniel James Tynan survived the accident. Daniel James was born 4 1/2 months after the collision. Lila lived almost another 69 years.
On August 14, 1955, she married Darrell Dean "Dean" Tynan at the Open Bible Church
in Charles City, Iowa. They had three children during their marriage, Dennis, Janice,
and Steven. Dean also raised his brother Jerald's "Jimmy" son Daniel James "Jim"
Tynan.
Lila was a stay-at-home housewife. She also was very active being a Cub Scott
Leader, Girl Scott Leader, and helping run the Faith Bible Chapel Youth Group. When
the children all were in school, she went to work for Bob Thompson's Laundry Mat in
Charles City and then Oliver / White Farm Tractor as a security guard. Dean and Lila
divorced in 1974. After the divorce, she moved to New Hampton, Iowa and worked at
Bernis Bakery as a dishwasher. Dean died on October 1, 2011.
On December 11, 1976, she married Robert Jackson "Bob" Wall at Wells, Minnesota.
While married to Bob, Lila and Bob lived in Fertile, Iowa and Lila worked at Winnebago
Industries in Forest City, Iowa on the cabinet line and Bob delivered Winnebago
Motorhomes all across the country. They worked there for several years. When her
first grandchild was born, they moved to Otterville, Iowa and Lila worked for the Mental
Health Institute as a Nurse Aide. Then Lila and Bob drove truck across the country as
co-drivers until Bob became sick with cancer and they moved to Missouri. Bob passed
away, December 15, 1984 while they were living in Missouri.
After Bob passed away, Lila moved back to Mason City, Iowa and worked for Fristo sewing leather wallets. She then started for Americare taking care of patients in their homes or apartments. She worked for Americare until she met and married Leonard Paul Dietrich.
On August 21, 1992, she married Leonard Paul Dietrich at Bethlehem Lutheran Church,
Manly, Iowa. They lived on the farm where Leonard was born outside of Manly and
raised his ten children with his first wife. They wintered in Phoenix, Arizona the first
couple years but then Lila bought a trailer to winter in Texas for 18 years until Leonard
pass away in Mission, Texas. After Leonard passed away on March 13, 2012, the farm house was sold and Lila moved into an apartment in Mason City, Iowa.
In 2015, she was engaged to Art Swanson and lived one summer in Moose Lake, Minnesota. But she moved back into the apartment building in Mason City, Iowa by herself until she needed to move into Good Shepherd Nursing Home after having surgery and needing extra care.
Lila loved to sing, dance, play card games and board games, camping, sew, making jewelry, and just plain having fun being around people.
Lila is survived by her children, Daniel "Jim" (Sandy) Tynan, of Bolingbrook, IL, Dennis (Virginia) Tynan of Charles City, IA, Janice (Dean) Miller of Independence, IA, and Steven (Lori) Tynan of Mason City, IA. Grandchildren, William Miller, Leon Meriset, Alex, Benjamin, James, & Connor Tynan, Stacy (Adam) Campbell, Amy (John) Weishaar, Kelly, Kristina, and Amanda Tynan. Great-Grandchildren, Brody, Faith, and Liberty Miller, Lucas Weishaar, and Lillyann Campbell. And Great-great-grandchild, Scarlett Miller. One Sister Pernella (Gerald) Monaghan, one brother Clark (Mary) Crooks and brother-in-law Julius "Bud" Drewelow.
She was proceeded in death by her husbands Jerald Tynan, Darrell "Dean" Tynan, Robert Wall, and Leonard Dietrich, her parents Loyal and Carol Crooks. Three sisters, Shirley Silber, Alice Barkhausen, Sue Drewelow, and Four brothers, Wendell, Russell, Roger, and Clayton Crooks.
