Alice Carol (Crooks) Barkhausen, 86, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Sunday December 24, 2017 at home.
Alice Carol Barkhausen was born on November 20, 1931 in Fredericksburg, Iowa, the daughter of Loyal and Carol (Parson) Crooks.
She graduated with a G.E.D. in Waverly, in 1974.
She was united in marriage to Alvin W. Barkhausen on November 6, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were blessed with four children. Eugene passed away on November 27, 1972.
Alice worked 25 years as custodian for Waverly Shell - Rock Community schools.
Her hobbies and enjoyments were gardening, puzzles, reading the bible, with bible study, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church, VFW Auxiliary, where she held every office possible and doing genealogy and was a first to have a book published.
Alice looked forward each year to the VFW annual poppy sales.
Alvin passed away April 18, 2002.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin, her son Eugene, her father and mother, Loyal and Carol (Parson) Crooks, brothers, Wendell, Russell, Clayton, and Roger Crooks and sister Shirley (Crooks) Silber; sister-in-law Betty Crooks (Russell), brother-in-law Leonard Dietrich (Lila), brother-in-law Eitel Silber(Shirley).
Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church in Waverly, with Pastor Dan Eloe officiating. Burial will be held in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kaiser- Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.
Memorials may be directed to Alice's family for a later designation.
