Graveside services for Mrs. Julia Shannon Yandell will be held at Parkway Memorial Cemetery, 1161 Highland Colony Pkwy., Ridgeland, MS, Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 3:00 pm.
She died on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.
Mrs. Yandell was born on December 27, 1929, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, the daughter of Claude and Julia Shannon. They preceded her in death, as did her two brothers, C.R. Shannon and Lawrence Shannon and a sister, Janie Turner.
Mrs. Yandell attended Pontotoc City School, graduating in 1948. She attended MSCW, graduating in 1952.
On April 27, 1952, she married Benjamin Sturdivant Yandell of Vance, Mississippi. They were married 61 years until his death in 2013. Mr. and Mrs. Yandell resided in Vance until his retirement, and then they moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 1980. They moved to St. Catherine's Village in Madison in 2007. Mrs. Yandell was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
She is survived by three children, Benjamin Sturdivant Yandell, Jr. and his wife Kim, of New York City, Mae Yandell Hitchcock and her husband Dan, of Corvallis, Oregon, and Jane Yandell Nalty and her husband Raymond, of Madison, Mississippi.
Surviving also are five grandchildren, R.J. Nalty and his wife Lauren, Benjamin Nalty and his wife, Katie, Wilson Nalty, Chris Yandell, and Mae Lee Hitchcock.
She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Crinan, Charlotte, Quinn, and Bryant Nalty.
