Henry Freeman Wilcox, commonly known as "Pete" or "Free" was born in what was known then as Lyman, Bingham, Idaho, but is the same area known now as Sunnydell, Madison, Idaho. He was the 7th of 8 children born to Boyd Extine Wilcox and Mary Sophronia Dayley Wilcox. Sadly, when he was only four years old, his father died, and then his mother died about a year and a half later. Four of his siblings died as infants. Henry and his three remaining siblings were then raised by their mother's family with the Wilcox family also treating them kindly. He and his brother were listed as living with their grandmother Hannah Dayley on the 1900 US Federal Census

Henry married Nannie Louella Householder 15 June 1915 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. She preceded him in death in 1963 when they were living in American Fork. They had a son Freeman Wayne Wilcox.

Henry was involved with the Samuel Allen Wilcox Family Association--serving as its vice president in 1963 to 1965 when he served as president. In a letter he sent to the family bulletin editor on 15 June 1965, he writes, "I am feeling a little blue today. It would have been our Golden Wedding Anniversary had Mom been permitted to live. But I guess we have no way of controlling our destiny here upon earth and must look forward to the happy day when we will meet our loved ones in eternal life." Published in the Samuel Allen Wilcox Family Bulletin #22 - 1965, page 32.
