born in Gower Township, hear Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa and died here in Payne County. Before his seventh birthday, he, along with his family, moved to rural Stafford County, Kansas, about nine miles southwest of Stafford, where his grandfather founded the town of Leesburg. As land opened in the Oklahoma Territory the family relocated, settling in Paradise Township, Payne County. Following the death of his father, the family returned to Leesburg, but John returned to Oklahoma where he farmed. In 1907 he married Clara Hagin, a native of Kansas. The couple's son Cleason was born there on March 24, 1911
