Norfolk - Roberta Clifton, 82, affectionately called "Mother Clifton" of the 1700 block of Berkley Avenue, passed away April 13, 2008. She was a native of Louisburg, North Carolina also retired.

Mother Clifton was a faithful member of St. Paul COGIC.

Mother Clifton was predeceased by her mother Rosa Fowler Johnson and her father John Johnson.

Mother Clifton leaves to cherish her memory her loving family, three daughters, Betsy Ayankoya (Tai) of Carrboro, NC, Blair Clifton of Portsmouth, VA, and Deborah Warren of Chesapeake, VA; two sons, James Clifton of Raleigh, NC and Marvin Clifton of Norfolk, VA; three sisters, Lurnder Johnson of Norfolk, VA, Ann Johnson and Louise Johnson both of Raleigh, NC; three brothers, John Johnson Jr., Herman Johnson, and Robert Lee Johnson all of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, Yinka Ayankoya, Deji Ayankoya of Carrborro, NC, Gregory Clifton of Portsmouth, VA, and Brandon Clifton of Chesapeake, VA; one great-grandchild Elijah Ayankoya of Carrboro, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held 10am, Saturday, April 19, 2008, at St.Paul COGIC, 1615 Isaac Street, Norfolk, VA. Dr. Wilbert L.Daniels, Sr., officiated. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery, Norfolk, VA. Mother Clifton laid in repose one hour prior to service.
