A.M. Dahlin and his wife Louisa, maid Johnson, are among those Texans who came to Texas, a long time ago. They both came from Smaland in 1870 and settled down in Austin, Texas where they married two years later (1872). They lived there the rest of their lives. Their home was located on the property where the UT "drum" is located today.

Mr. Dahlin was the son of Johannes Mouson, a squader at Ulfnas in Oggestorp Socken, where he was born in 1849. In Sweden he worked as a miller and a gardener, but even if he knew these skills, he left Smaland with all other people that were leaving Smaland during that time, to go to Texas. The first seven years in Austin, Mr. Dahlin worked as a gardener for Mr Bentownsend and the next seven years he worked in his own store. After a short time as a janitor at the University, he worked at the Morley Brothers Drug Store in Austin. Mr. Dahlin worked there for more than eighteen years. In 1906, he and his son Gustaf bought "Lone Star Bakery" at 412 East Sixth St. That was a prosperous purchase for the family.

Andrew was very active in the Swedish Methodist Church. He was, during the last years of his life, very interested in faculty and was a member of many organizations. He was a member of W.O.W., K., A.T.M., Odd Fellows, Redman and was honored as a good member in them all.
