Jimmy John Landrum (Jay Payne) passed away peacefully at home in Burleson with his family by his side on Friday, January 14th, 2022 at the age of 54. Jay was born on August 31, 1967, in Dallas, Texas and lived for a short period in Irving. He and his family moved to Joshua where he spent most of his youth as he grew into adulthood. He attended Joshua schools and graduated from Joshua High School in 1986.
Jay was a devoted husband to his wife Wylene for almost 25 years.
Jay spent most of his adult life battling health challenges including asthma, leukemia, and renal failure. Over the last several years, he focused on spending quality time with his family despite being in and out of the hospital. The last few months took quite a toll on his body, and he just couldn't fight anymore. In the end Jay was at peace knowing he was going to see the Lord and that he and his family would no long experience suffering.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents and his beautiful niece Cherish Franklin.
Jay enjoyed playing many sports but especially found happiness when playing a robust round of golf with his lifelong friends, Roman Lumdsen and Benny Bransom, his brother Robbie and brother-in-laws Lonnie Johnson and Andrew Griffin.
Jay loved God and his love for Jesus was never more evident than in his words to the nurses as he left the hospital to go home, "I'm going to see Jesus."
Jay will be missed by many and will forever live on in our hearts.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, in the Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.
