TSgt Bobby Franklin Bowman, 91, (USAF Retired) passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Bobby was born on July 15, 1932, in Edinburg, Virginia, son of the late Boyd Miley Bowman and Virginia Grandstaff Bowman. The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 2:00pm at Valley Funeral Service in Edinburg. Pastor Terry Hendricks will officiate. Burial with military honors by Edinburg VFW Post #2447 will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Edinburg. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.

Bobby is survived by a daughter, Deborah Orndorff; grandsons, Bradley Orndorff and wife Emily of Edinburg and Brian Orndorff of Maurertown; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Steven and Lena Orndorff and Haley and Chris Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Grandstaff Bowman; his parents; and sisters and brothers, Frances Fauber, Joyce Sager, Harold and Billy Bowman.

Bobby was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church. Bobby graduated from Edinburg High School in 1951. At the age of 18, he joined the USAF service where he was sent into the Korean War. His family and country are proud of his 20 years of service. In that time, he was stationed in many countries. He was stationed in England, Germany and Libya in Africa. He served in French Morocco, Netherlands, South Korea, Denmark, and Greenland. In the United States he was stationed in Nevada, Indiana, Texas, Maine, North Carolina and Delaware. Along with his family, they were stationed in Japan. Bobby was sent to South Korea again and then to Vietnam for a year. He spent time in the Philippines, Guam, Thailand and then returned to Vietnam for a year again.

In his civilian life he worked for C. E. Thompson and Sons, Northern Virginia Vending and retired from there in 1994. He stayed busy and served his fellow veterans by driving the V.A. van from 1994-2012. He belonged to the VFW Post #2447 as a life member and joined the American Legion at the same time. Other organizations he belonged to were the Mt. Jackson Moose, Vietnam Assoc., the Air Force Sgt. Assoc., the NRA, and the Edinburg Lions Club.

Pallbearers will be Robert Sager, Dennis Fauber, Phil Fauber, Tommy Bowman, Dick Bowman, and Kevin Fauber.
