OMBERG, Patricia, Patricia Omberg, 86, of Richmond, VA died peacefully on Tuesday November 21, 2023.
Patricia Holmes was born in South Bend, IN to Robert and Dorothy Holmes. Pat attended St Mary's College in South Bend. After graduation in 1959, Pat headed to San Diego, CA to be a school teacher where she met a dashing young naval officer William Omberg, who became the love of her life. They married on December 26, 1960 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Notre Dame, IN.
Pat and Bill's life together was an amazing adventure, married for over 62 years until Bill passed earlier this year. While Bill was on active duty, Pat and Bill lived all over the country including tours in New London, CT, Key West, FL, Monterey, CA, Charleston, SC, and Virginia Beach, VA. During this time they had 6 children.
Pat and Bill retired to the Richmond area when the first of their 11 grandchildren was born. In addition to their grandchildren, they welcomed 2 great-grandchildren.
Pat continued to teach except for a hiatus to raise her children. During her career Pat taught grade school in San Diego, Charleston, Virginia Beach, Hudson, NH, Herndon, VA and locally at Shady Grove Elementary in Henrico. Even after retiring Pat continued as both a substitute and reading volunteer.
Pat cherished every moment with her husband and family. Pat and Bill enjoyed gardening together. Their pride and abilities were reflected in each place they lived. Pat loved any day spent at the beach. Annual trips with Bill and the family, while large and rambunctious, were the highlight of her year.
Pat is survived by her children Bill Jr, Rob (Mary), Tom (Marti), Peter (Susan), Katharin Girardi (Brian), Elizabeth Brown (Travis), and her grandchildren Tucker (Bridget), William, Matt, Parker, Jillian, Patrick, Claire, Dominick, Max, Katie, and Emily, and great grandchildren Julia and Allison.
Helping young people discover a passion for reading was a true joy in her life. She encouraged all adults to read to children from an early age. To honor Pat's life and passion, consider sharing a book with a young person in your life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on January 5, 2024 at 11am. Pat will interred with Bill at Arlington National Cemetery on a later date
