Martha Frances Reams was born in August 1942 to John & Sallie (Swain) Reams, the youngest of nine children. She married James Isaac Clark on 12 May 1859 in Bourbon County, Kansas. Together they had 14 children:

Eleanor Price (1863-1944)
Thomas Jefferson (1866-1940)
Eliza Rebecca Catherine (1868-1930)

Martha and James lived for a while in Woodbury, Kentucky, where a number of their children were born. They lastly settled in Taney County, Missouri, building a large house on Taney City Ridge in 1890.

After James died in 1907, Martha lived with her son, Thomas and his family. In 1910 they were living in Elm City, Kansas. Martha died in 1911. She shares the same gravestone with James and three other family members,
