Son of Moses Lewis and Harriet Marston, both immigrants from England

At the English census of 1881 he was 4, living in Worthen (Salop), Montgomeryshire, Wales (today Shropshire, England) with his parents and infant sister. His father was a lead miner.

Born in England, he emigrated to the US as a child, with his family, in 1886.

He married Lena M. Shover, daughter of Frank Shover and Emma Teller, on 16 Jan 1900 in Troy, New Hampshire. They had children:
