Thurman Donald Cheser, 94, formerly of Bardstown and Nelson County, died at 7:40 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at the Spartanburg cheserRegional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, S.C. He was a native of Washington County. He was born June 28, 1922, to the late Thurman and Ethel Carey Cheser. He was a former member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church and a retired dairy farmer. He formerly owned and operated a motel in Bardstown as well as the Woodlawn Store. He was a member of the Duvall Masonic Lodge # 6 F. & A.M. in Bardstown. Survivors include his wife, Martha Carney Cheser; one daughter, Janis Phillips of Franklin; one son, David Wayne Cheser of Spartanburg, S.C.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral is 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home in Springfield with the Rev. Cal Adams, officiating. Burial is in the New Hope Cemetery where masonic services will be conducted by Billy Riggs. Visitation is noon-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Carey & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
