Grover C. "G.C." Sheppard, Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2023. He will be forever loved, remembered, and missed by all who knew him.

G.C. was born September 7, 1941, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from Cotton Valley High School in 1959, where he enjoyed an outstanding football and basketball career. He was honored to play in the Louisiana State Allstar Football game in Baton Rouge in 1958. He attended Northwestern State College on a football scholarship, and then went to work for H.L. Hunt Drilling Company as a roughneck.

Subsequent to a life-changing drilling rig accident in 1961, he chose to study engineering under the tutelage of a private professor and received his Engineering Certificate. He continued working for various Hunt companies, including Penrod Drilling Company and Placid Oil Company USA, as well as Placid Oil Company International, which allowed him to travel the world. In 1991 Torch Operating Company acquired these entities and he continued working for them until his retirement in 2002. Thereafter he was a drilling consultant for numerous companies worldwide.

G.C. was a 32nd Degree Mason and was very proud of his association with The Grand Lodge of Laurel, Mississippi, the Hamasa Shriners of Meridian, Mississippi, the Scottish Rite Masons, York Rite Masons, and El Karubah Shriners or Shreveport, Louisiana.

He spent the last several years of his life renewing old acquaintances, entertaining, cooking, enjoying lively conversations, and watching football games with his special friends, Carol Hagner Dodson, Kim and Ben Lay, and Lavelle Smith, who showed him much loving care and attention. He also became very devoted to his very special friend, Toby, a Jack Russell terrier. They adored each other, as was evident to any and everyone who saw them together.

G.C. was preceded in death by his parents Grover C. Sheppard Sr., Audrey Chappell Sheppard, and brother James Sheppard. He is survived by the mother of his children, Lynda Rice Stringer, his daughters, Sheryl Sheppard, Rebecca Sheppard Myrick, his grandson Michael Reeves and wife Kimberly, and great grandson Shawn Michael Reeves.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Hernandez, his physician and longtime friend, and Laura Perkins, PA, who treated him for over 20 years. We are also grateful to the staff of the Heritage Manor Stratmore Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Lifepath Hospice Care services, specifically Alison Watson, for their care and support, in addition to the many family and friends who visited and prayed for him during his time there.

A visitation will be held at Forest Park Funeral Home at 1201 Louisiana Avenue, Shreveport, La., Friday, November 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 18th at Forest Park West Mausoleum, 4000 Meriwether Rd., Shreveport, La. Jerry Phillips, his close friend, will preside over the service.
