Former Valley Man Killed In Car Accident
Ogden UT--Mrs. Bertha Child of 268 Harrisville Road, who suffered a fractured skull in a fatal auto accident here early yesterday, remained in a serious condition today, according to report at the Dee Hospital.
Her husband, Orville Child, 54 employee of the Utah-Idaho Central Railroad, was killed in the accident which occurred at 12:15 a.m. Sunday at Twenty-first street and Jackson Ave. Five other persons were injured.
This was the nineteenth auto fatality in Weber County this year and the twelfth in Ogden. It resulted from the Child car having been driven without lights and Henry Rose, 28, of 126 Twenty-third Street, having failed to heed a stop sign, according, to Police Officers W.W. Millgan, L.W. Pack, George Theobald and Fred Thompson, who investigated..
Booked at the police station Sunday afternoon, following, his release from the hospital, Rose denied that he had failed to heed the stop-sign. He declared the Child car had been driven without lights. He was released subject to call.
Three sons of Mr Child, injured in the accident, were Rawson, 19, fractured left ankle; Glen 16, lacerations on the neck and Lloyd, 12 possible internal injuries.
Persons injured in the Rose car were Reid Hope, 18, lacerations on the left wrist and Lucille Hope, 18, shock and bruises.
Mr Child is survived by his widow and the following sons and daughters; Orville Thomas, Rossan, Glen, and Lloyd Child all of Ogden; and Mrs Delas Brock and Mrs Florence Anderson, Ogden; also four grandchildren and his parents, Mr and Mrs Orville Child Sr., Ogden, and the following brothers and sisters: John Child, Baker Ore.; Mrs Ella Allred, Mrs Gene Roberts, Ogden; Mrs Effie Sessions and Mrs Verba Taylor, Star Valley Wyo., and Mrs Emma Wysong of Los Angeles.
