Letha attended school in rural Laclede County. She made friends easily and enjoyed visiting with her classmates through the years.
In 1939, she was united in marriage with Francis Murphy, and to this union was born one daughter, who survives. Francis preceded her in death. She was later united in marriage with Clifford Claxton, and together they shared three wonderful children. Clifford also preceded her in death.
For many years, Letha was employed as a seamstress for H.D. Lee Company. She made many lasting friendships with her co-workers. When she wasn't working outside her home, she found time to enjoy quilting, ceramics, tending to her flowers and caring for her pets. She had a great love of animals.
Letha was a devout Christian and was a faithful and active member of New Hope Baptist Church. Her church was precious to her and she enjoyed the fellowship of her church family. With her interest in carpentry, she helped install the windows to the new addition of the church.
Those surviving include her daughter, Jessie Edwards of Lebanon; a step-son, Clifford L. Claxton of Lebanon; a step-daughter, Bonnie O'Neil and her husband Johnny of Springfield, MO; her sister, Helen Goodwin of Lebanon; four step-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Bob Bowman.
A lovely Christian mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend, Letha will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched.
