Gary Dean Smith, 80, of Conover, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023 at his residence.

He was born April 3, 1943 in Catawba County to the late Albert and Edna Austin Smith.

Gary was a United States Army Veteran and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover. He retired from the banking industry after 24 years of service, was a member of AmVets Post 76, St. Peter's LLL, the Golden Agers, and a past member of the Hickory Jaycees.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Larry Preslar and Jimmy Sigmon.

Those left to cherish his memory are;

Wife of 52 years: Pat Sigmon Smith of the home

Son: Todd D. Smith and wife Susan of Claremont

Sister: Gloria S. Preslar of Columbia, SC

Sister-in-law: Cathay Sigmon of Newton

A service to celebrate Gary's life will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover. Rev. Eric Hauss will officiate. Burial with military honors by AmVets of Hickory Post 76 will follow in the church cemetery.
