John William "Bill" Addison, age 80, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, September 16, 1003, at B.J. Workman Hospital.

A native of Spartanburg; son of George Butler Addison (1889–1966) and Julia Adeline Whelstine Addison (1890–1956).

Well respected, a locally known philanthropist, public as well as private; served his country with honor in World War II as a sergeant under the command of General George Patton in the 75th Infantry Division; his tour of duty included the Rhineland offensive, Invasion of Normandy, and the Battle of the Bulge; awarded the Bronze Star for heroic and meritorious achievement.

Survivors include sons, Darrell Addison, Mark Addison, and Phil Addison; daughters, Jerri Addison, Becky Addison, Debbie Addison, and Sandi Addison; sister, Helen Beatrice Addison Crossley (1921–2008); a number of grandchildren.

Also predeceased by brothers, James Walter Addison (1911–1979) and George Butler "Scottie" Addison (1920–1981).

Visitation was held from 7:00 - 9:00 pm, Thursday, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

Services were held at 2:00 pm, Friday, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by Rev. Johnnie Bullman and Rev. Pete Addison; burial in Sunset Memorial Park.
