John is preceded in death by his parents, Betty Basinger Frierson and Clarence Nicholson Frierson, and his brother, Clarence Nicholson "Tannie" Frierson, Jr. John is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Christy, his children, Trenton Holt Frierson and fiancée Maddie Dupuy, John Bolinger Frierson, Jr. and wife Adrienne, and Jennifer Grace Frierson Couhig and husband Ben, and his grandchildren: Lillie Monroe and Audrey Marie Frierson, Amelie Phelps, Paul Bolinger, and Anna-Clarence Basinger Frierson, and Corbin John Couhig. John is also survived by his brothers, George Archer Frierson, II and wife Ivy, and Christian Basinger Frierson and wife Paula, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The Frierson family moved from South Carolina to the Caddo and DeSoto Parishes area of northwest Louisiana in the mid-1840s, where they continue to live today. John was the fifth generation of his family to live and farm cotton on Frierson Plantation, known to his family as "The Place." He graduated from Captain Shreve High School in 1971, where he was a first team all-district, first team all-city, and second team all-state player for the 10-1-1 Gator football team, led by legendary football coach, Lee Hedges. He remained an active alumnus throughout his life. John graduated from Louisiana State University in 1975 with a degree in agriculture business. Following graduation, John returned home to farm cotton with his father and brothers. John was in the business of growing cotton for 48 years.

John's life was centered on love for his wife and family, his faith, his friends, and the good life of farming. He had a unique and special bond with each of his children and grandchildren, who will always cherish memories of their "Papa." John loved spending time on the farm, duck hunting, and watching LSU football. He was a fifth-generation member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as teacher, Deacon, Elder, Trustee, and on numerous committees, including D. Thomason, Outreach, Stoer, Legacy Green, Nominating, and most recently, the Pastoral Nominating Committee. He set a strong example for his children in all areas of life, including his devotion to Christy and his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. John's family finds peace and comfort in the understanding that in life and in death we belong to God.
