Politician. A lawyer, practicing out of Alexandria, Virginia, Harrison had a number of prominent clients, including George Washington and George Mason. When the Revolutionary War began, he was named aide-de-camp to General Washington in 1775. He became Washington's secretary the following year, and served in that position until 1781. He served as Chief Judge of the Maryland General Court from 1781-1789. He was elected as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1787, but declined. Harrison received six electoral votes from Maryland in the first U.S. Presidential Election in 1789. He was nominated by President Washington to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States, but declined due to ill health.
