Daughter of Col. Alan Bartlett Shepard, Sr. and Renza Emerson, she was raised in East Derry and graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1942 and from Principia College in Elsiah, Illinois in 1946.

In 1949, she married Gordon L. Sherman and moved to Montclair, New Jersey. On 24 July 1965, she married Warren B. Lovejoy of Montclair. They retired to Pinehurst, North Carolina in 1980.

She was an active and lifelong member of the Christian Science church and was an involved member of the Garden Club of Pinehurst; the Friends of Weymouth; the Sandhills Photography Club and the Chippers Golf Group.
She was also Past Regent of the Alfred Moore Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as well as a charter member and Vice Regent of the Temperance Smith Alston Chapter of the D.A.R.
She belonged to the Order of the Crown of Charlemagne of the USA and was descended from the brother of Edward Winslow, governor of the Plymouth Bay Colony.

At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband, Warren, one son, one daughter, one stepson, one stepdaughter and six grandchildren. She was also survived by her brother, Admiral Alan Bartlett Shepard, Jr, of California and his family.
