Emile Bergheand was born in Paris, France about 1846 (per 1910 Census), emigrating to the US in 1866 where he became a naturalized citizen. He served in the US Army, including 1874-1879 at Ft. McKavett, TX, and as a private in Company G, 2nd Inf Regt, stationed at Fort Omaha (later Fort Crook), NE at least between 1888 and 1899. He served in 1900 at Alcatraz, CA with the 22nd Inf. He retired in April 1901. He was living in Bellevue, NE in 1910, apparently never having married. He died on Feb 18, 1918 and was buried in the Fort Crook Cemetery, now Offutt AFB, NE.
