BENNETT - Christina Elaine (Guaetta) age 76, of Johnstown. On Friday, October 6th, 2023, Elaine was reunited with her family and many friends who died before her.
Elaine was born to loving and hardworking parents Erma (McElwee) and Domenick Guaetta in Robinson, PA on December 9th, 1946. She was adored, teased, and protected by her older brother Donald (died 2015). She graduated from United High School in 1964 and maintained the friendships she made there for her entire life. In 1973 Elaine had her only child, Sheri, who she cherished. Elaine was smart, independent, and worked hard. She became a barber and also worked for Cambria County Area Agency on Aging as a bookkeeper. She graduated from Geneva College (B.S.) as an adult in 1995, the same year Sheri graduated from PSU. Elaine thrived in retirement, as she had looked forward to becoming a "lady of leisure". She cared for her family and wintered in Florida with her brother and sister-in-law Deanna. She was a great conversationalist with a smile for everyone at her many social outings. She could sew, fish (and filet them), decorate a cake and made beautiful jewelry. She loved playing scrabble and mahjong. She volunteered her time on the local Elections Board. She traveled with friends and family. Elaine enjoyed spending time with her "favorite" son-in-law Rich, even trying to understand football on his behalf. However, the lights of her life were her three teenaged grandchildren, Morgan, Richie, and Gracie. They adored their "Nana" and spending time with her. Elaine's grandchildren were the most special people in her life. She loved them fiercely and left them so much wisdom. Elaine was detail oriented and curious. When she was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, she learned everything about her options and made good decisions. She fought stoically and was so very brave. She decided she wanted to be comfortable in the future and elected the care of hospice one week before her death. Most of all, being in Elaine's company was a gift. She entered a room a stranger and left a friend. Her friends were an important part of her life and she enjoyed every lunch, theatre show, vacation, and conversation, and especially all of the laughs. Elaine was strong in her faith and her wishes were for all of those that loved her come together after her passing. All relatives and friends are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life at Anthony's Restaurant in Johnstown on October 21st at 5pm. Arrangements entrusted to Schellhaas & Sons Funeral Home, Sewickley. In lieu of flowers family suggests donations to Concordia Franklin Park or Bridges Hospice, www.bridgeshospice.org. Please leave all condolences at www.schellhaasfh.com.
