Mr. Jerald Clemons Norvell, 77, of Abingdon, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family, at 4:19 AM on Sunday October 1, 2023.

On May 14, 1946, Jerald was born to Dwight and Clara Norvell in Mt. Sterling, Illinois. Jerry, as he would be known; graduated Rushville High school in 1963. In 1964 Jerry joined the United States Navy, and had completed tours in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. It was there that he became interested in jujitsu. Jerry met the love of his life: Carolyn Sue Campbell at a judo match, and would later marry her in June of 1970. Sue and Jerry were married for 53 years before his passing on October 1st at their home with her by his side.

Jerry enjoyed fishing and hunting throughout his life. Both he and Sue fostered over 100 children together. And most of all, Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; as well as helping people in his community.

Those left to still celebrate Jerry's smile and good heart include his wife Sue, four sisters, four brothers four daughters, seven sons, 21 grandchildren, and many friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers, and one son.

Per Jerry's wishes, cremation has been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Galesburg Rescue Mission. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at h-p-w.com.
