Some of you have already heard, and for those that haven't, our brother Martin passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 31 in San Diego, California.
I had a few friends reach out to me that knew Martin and hung out with him or worked with him back when he lived in Minnesota. They all had great memories and fun times to share about him. He did know how to tell a story (must have got that from our dad ), give someone a hard time, or be there to listen when you had a problem.
He loved to sing, (even sang at a few weddings and anniversaries in the early days - he also loved karaoke). He had a great collection of music and loved to listen to it, and share new artists he came across, with other people.
Another passion of his was creating a plant oasis in his front and backyard, with cool plants and cactus, he added cement pathways, and even added a bench for passerby's to sit and relax a bit.
Martin was also a great cook. When I lived in Arizona we got to spend a few holidays together with him and his friends, and he would put together some awesome meals. I learned from one of his friends recently that he would make a dish of something or other, and give her a call to come over and partake in it, because he had made too much.
Martin had been retired from the city of San Diego as a systems analyst with the water department for about five years, and has lived in San Diego for the past 38 years.
Martin will be missed for his kind heart, the champion of many, his generous nature, raucous laughter, and articulate speeches (he also used to perform in plays in HS and College), his towering persona, and he also gave the best bearhugs!
RIP brother Martin
