Irene E. Herrman, 89 (sic, 79), Hays, died Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Homestead of Hays. She was born March 4, 1934 in Ellis, the daughter of Alex and Rosie (Stecklein) Schoenberger.

On June 30, 1953 she was united in marriage to Gilbert C. Herrman at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2006.

She worked at the La Crosse Nursing Home, 7-Up Bottling Company, Travenol, and Pat's Beef Jerky. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Liebenthal and the St. Joseph Altar Society. Her hobbies included crocheting, embroidery, playing Bingo and cards, fishing, and bowling. She enjoyed casino trips, her grandson's racing, and watching the Kansas City Royals.

Survivors include her two sons, Dennis Herrman and wife Carol of Wilsonville, OR and Robert Herrman and wife Linda of Forest Grove, OR, four daughters, Linda Rohleder and husband Steve of WaKeeney, Carol Dinges and husband Ken of Hays, Janet Brungardt and husband Wayne of Hays, and Sharon Voelz of Beaverton, OR, two brothers, Robert Schoenberger and wife Stella of Aurora, CO, Julie Schoenberger and wife Karen of Hays, three sisters, Betty Schoenberger of Arvada, CO, Rose Rupp and husband Rich of Buckeye, AZ, and Eleanor Pachal of Aurora, CO, 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gilbert, five brothers, William, Clarence, John, Alex Jr., and Wilmer Schoenberger, a brother-in-law, Leo Pachal, a son-in-law, Christopher Voelz, and a granddaughter, Kristy Ann Rohleder.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Liebenthal with Fr. Stephen Dabanka officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 on Sunday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church in Liebenthal. A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
