He was the son of the late Nick, Jr., and Celleon Peterson Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Cox Thompson; four brothers, Furman, Jesse, Clifford, and Edward "Eddie" Thompson; and three sisters, Jenny Mae Harris, Callie Ruth Louden, and Hattie Robinson. He was survived by his sister, Barbara Etta "Bobbi" Holloway and a host of nephews and nieces.
