Jewell graduated from West Baden High School in 1942. After World War II ended, she married her high school sweet heart, Calvin Harold "Hoover" Agan who had just returned from submarine service in the South Pacific. They soon opened Agan's Market in West Baden and began raising their family. Hoover preceded her in death in 1990 after they had retired to Florida.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, five sisters and two great grandchildren.
Jewell leaves behind her sons Kim Agan (Sharon) of Bountiful, Utah and Jeff Agan (Barbara) of Floyds Knobs, Indiana; and her daughters Jo Lyn Agan (Charles Noyes) of Floyds Knobs, Indiana; and Dara Cassidy (Charles) of West Baden, Indiana. Her 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren will dearly miss their Nana as will a host of other loving relatives and friends.
She led a very active and fiercely independent life until the very end. She loved playing Scrabble while sharing Margaritas with her opponents. Jewell was a long-time member the P.E.O Sisterhood and Psi lota Xi sororities.
Jewell chose cremation and a Graveside Ceremony for family and friends will be held Saturday, September 16th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Bonds Chapel Cemetery.
