Dorothy Knecht Stevens, age 87, of Deland, Fla., beloved wife of Wilford Stevens for 67 years, died on Thursday, August 9, 2001, at Ormond Beach Hospital in Florida. She lived with her husband at the Alliance Community Retirement Center in Deland, and formerly lived in the White Hills section of Shelton.
She was born on October 13, 1913, to the late Carl and Frances Knecht in Waterbury. She did volunteer work and was a Girl Scout leader. She was also active in the Alliance Community where she lived. She graduated from high school in the Bridgeport school system and worked as a dietician. She was a member of the Huntington Congregational Church.
She is survived by her husband, Wilford; daughter, Sally Liu of Colorado; two grandchildren, Derrick and Celia Liu; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant son, Donald; brothers, Carl and George Knecht; and sisters, Emma and Marge Ray.
Her remains will be interred at the Upper White Hills Cemetery in Shelton, on Thursday, September 13, 2001, at 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held by the Rev. Gregory Schmidt of the Shelton Congregational Church at the grave site.
